Circlip Pliers in Action: Sizes, Shapes and Correct Use

Internal, external or 90° design: which circlip plier for which job – and how to use it correctly.

What Are Circlip Pliers?

Circlip pliers are special tools for the safe installation and removal of circlips (snap rings). They prevent rings from springing away while working, protecting both components and finger joints.

Choosing the Right Size

EMSMIL offers pliers in 6, 7 and 9 inches. Smaller pliers (6 inch) are handy for fine work, while longer pliers (9 inch) provide more leverage for tight rings. The 7-inch variant is a good all-rounder.

Straight or 90° Bent?

Straight pliers suit easily reachable circlips. The 90° bent version makes work easier in hard-to-reach places, such as in tight housings.

Tips for Use

Place the plier tips exactly into the ring's holes and open the pliers evenly. Work in a controlled way so the ring doesn't spring out. Good pliers sit comfortably in the hand and are robustly built.
